Single Swing Gate & Letterbox Installation

This project involved the supply, installation and commissioning of a custom single swing gate at a Perth residential property, including integrated letterbox, 24V gate automation and 240V power supply works.

AGM Automation completed the full scope including fabrication, installation, automation, electrical works, testing and final handover.

What Does a Single Swing Gate Installation Include?

A single swing gate installation generally includes:

  • Gate fabrication or supply
  • Post installation
  • Automation equipment
  • Electrical connection
  • Safety beam installation
  • Remote programming
  • System testing and commissioning

The final scope depends on site conditions, power availability and whether the system needs to integrate with intercoms or access control equipment.

For this project, AGM completed the entire installation from post setting through to final client handover.

Gate Design & Construction

AGM supplied and installed a custom single swing gate designed to suit the property.

The gate featured:

  • Powder coated aluminium frame
  • Vertical slatted aluminium infill with timber-look finish
  • Heavy-duty greasable hinges
  • Integrated custom letterbox within the gate infill panel

The gate was supported by:

  • 2 x 100 x 100 x 3mm steel posts concreted into the ground

The timber-look slatted finish provided a modern street-facing appearance while avoiding the maintenance requirements associated with real timber.

Automation & Electrical Works

Gate automation was provided using a 24V 415 FAAC single swing operator kit paired with a E124 control board.

The system included:

  • XP20 safety beams
  • 2 x Airkey remotes
  • Plug-in receiver card
  • Manual release keys and operator documentation

AGM also installed a 240V mains power supply to the gate location to power the automation system.

Where power is not already available at the gate location, trenching, boring or cabling works are often required as part of the installation scope.

What Automation Components Are Used on a Single Swing Gate?

Most residential automated swing gates use:

  • 24V swing gate operator
  • Control board and receiver
  • Safety beams
  • Remote controls
  • Manual release system

Safety beams are required to detect obstructions and help prevent gate contact during operation.

The E124 control system also allows for future upgrades including:

  • Additional remotes
  • Keypads
  • Intercom integration
  • Access control equipment

without replacing the existing control board.

Result – Completed Automated Swing Gate Installation

The completed installation included:

  • Custom powder coated aluminum gate
  • Vertical slatted timber-look infill
  • Integrated letterbox
  • 2 x 100 x 100 x 3mm concreted steel posts
  • 24V 415 FAAC swing gate operator
  • E124 control board
  • XP20 safety beams
  • 2 x programmed Pearl remotes
  • 240V power supply to gate location
  • Full commissioning and handover

The property now has a fully operational automated single swing gate system with integrated letterbox and compliant safety setup.

Frequently Asked Questions about Swing Gate Installations

Most single swing gate installations are completed within one to two days, depending on site conditions and electrical requirements.

If 240V power needs to be installed to the gate location, additional time may be required.

Custom fabricated gates are generally manufactured off-site and installed once fabrication is complete.

Yes.

Automated gates must include safety devices such as safety beams or obstruction detection systems to comply with Australian Standards.

Safety beams detect movement in the gate opening and stop or reverse the gate if required.

XP20 safety beams were installed and tested as part of this project.

Yes.

Custom fabricated gates can incorporate letterboxes directly into the gate infill panel.

For this project, AGM integrated the letterbox into the slatted infill design to maintain a clean street frontage without requiring a separate post-mounted letterbox.

Most residential swing gate operators run from a standard 240V mains supply, which is converted to low-voltage DC power through the control system.

If power is not already available at the gate location, electrical works must be included as part of the installation.
